Christmas Tree at ONACAM: Minor Orphans at the Heart of Institutional Solidarity

Yaoundé, 19 December 2025 – The National Office of War Veterans, Exservicemen and War Victims of Cameroon (ONACAM) organized, on Friday 19 December 2025 at the Maison du Combattant in Yaoundé, the second edition of its Christmas Tree ceremony dedicated to the minor orphans of its members. Held under the theme “A Christmas of Joy and Hope for Our Orphans,” this highly symbolic event was presided over by the Director General of ONACAM, Colonel (Rtd) Alfred FULLER.

Offering a moment of joy and comfort to children in vulnerable situations during the end-of-year festivities is an act of great social significance. At ONACAM, this initiative fully aligns with its core missions of assistance, protection and solidarity towards the beneficiaries of veterans, former military personnel and war victims. Through this event, the Office sought to remind these children that they are neither forgotten nor alone, and that the Nation remains attentive to their well-being.

Aged between 3 and 16, the minor orphans, carefully seated in the ceremony hall, gazed in wonder at the many gifts displayed at the Maison du Combattant. Board games, dolls, balloons, toy cars and various presents were distributed to more than one hundred children, lighting up their faces and rekindling the spirit of Christmas. In unison, these “special guests” expressed their gratitude to the Director General for this deeply humane initiative, praising his constant commitment to their health care, education and psycho-social support.

Before the distribution of gifts, the children animated the ceremony through a dance competition and various artistic performances. Dances, songs, recitations and sketches punctuated the event, creating a festive and warm atmosphere. Caregivers and ONACAM staff also joined in this joyful communion, reflecting the collective support for this act of solidarity.

This second edition benefited from the valued support of several partners. The Secretariat of State for Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie distinguished itself, for the second consecutive year, through its unwavering support for the project an engagement warmly acknowledged by the Director General of ONACAM. The Commercial and Distribution Company (SCODIS), partner of the 2025 edition, contributed to the animation of the event by providing two giant screens, enabling wide broadcast of key moments both inside and outside the venue. Les Boissons du Cameroun, the Cameroon Red Cross and other sponsors also contributed to the success of the ceremony.
