Sword Presentation Ceremony : The Ex-Servicemen memory meets the youth

Yaoundé, September 25, 2025 – In an atmosphere of solemnity, the sword presentation ceremony to the cadet officers of the 41st batch of the Combined Services Military Academy  (EMIA) took place at the Academy’s new campus in Ekoum-Abang in Awae subdivision and  Mefou and Afamba Division in the Centre Region. The event was presided over by Major General Philippe MPAY, Commander of Joint Military Schools and Training Centers ; a powerful symbol of duty honor and the continuation of the Cameroonian military spirit.

A highly symbolic moment ; this ceremony marked not only the official entry of cadet  officers into the great family of the armed forces, but also echoed beyond the parades, the enduring legacy passed down by Cameroon’s  Ex-Servicemen.

A Meeting Between Memory and Hope.

The notable presence of Veterans, members of the National Office of War Veterans, Exservicemen and War Victims of Cameroon (ONACAM), lent the event profound historical and moral significance.

These men and women, bearers of the nation’s scars and victories, embody its living memory. Their participation was far from ceremonial ; it symbolized a passing of the torch. The torch of courage, discipline, and patriotism to the younger generations, now called to serve with the same sense of loyalty.

The Sword : A Symbol of Integrity and Commitment.

In military tradition, the sword is no ordinary weapon ; it represents the honor of the soldier, their moral rectitude, and their total commitment for serving the Nation.

The solemn act of its presentation seals a promise to defend the Nation with dignity, following in the footsteps of those who wrote, often in blood, the glorious pages of Cameroon’s history.

Moral and Civic Rearmament Through Example.

By taking part in this ceremony, the Ex-Servicemen  sent a powerful message to Cameroon’s youth :

“To serve means to love. And to love the Nation means to put duty before privilege.”

At a time when society faces numerous challenges, loss of values, individualism, and a weakening sense of duty, this encounter between generations stands as a resounding call for moral and civic renewal.

The Ex-Servicemen, through their lived experience, remind us that loyalty, discipline, and keeping one’s word are the foundations of every strong Nation.

The youth with their enthusiasm and desire to serve, ensure continuity in fidelity to these timeless values.

A Bridge Between Yesterday and Tomorrow.

This ceremony was more than a military ritual. It was an act of intergenerational transmission, a collective oath between memory and the future.

The raised swords of the cadet officers responded to the bowed caps of the Ex-Servicemen, a silent dialogue of respect and recognition.

It was a living expression of a shared philosophy of service : duty does not age ; it is passed on.

Conclusion : Youth as Heir to the Spirit of Memory.

By honoring the presence of Veterans, the sword presentation ceremony reminded Cameroon’s youth that patriotism is not a slogan ; it is a way of life.

Through their example, the Ex-Servicemen invite every young person to carry high the torch of loyalty, hard work and respect for national values.

It is by drawing inspiration from this heritage that the youth, now marching forward, will build a stronger, fairer, and more united Cameroon, a nation faithful to its heroes and confident in its destiny.
