Onacam pays tribute to one of its members: Ango Ruben

The Director General of the National Office of Veterans, ex-servicemen and victims of war of Cameroon (Onacam), Alfred Fuller, is full of praise for his late friend and comrade, Ango Ruben. He died on April 12 at the age of 87, after a 21-day coma in his native village of Esendon. In a tribute from Alfred Fuller, he is described as an "exemplary fighter, admirable for his courage, daring and loyalty. According to Onacam's CEO, this veteran was also one of the African fighters that President Jacques Chirac had described as "forces of freedom" for having participated, 60 years ago, in the Provence landing in France. During the commemoration of this anniversary in 2004 in France, Ruben Ango was awarded the Legion of Honor by Michèle Alliot-Marie, French Minister of Defense.

This "mythical figure in the world of Cameroonian veterans", in the words of Alfred Fuller, entered the colonial army "voluntarily" in 1941, at the age of 22, as a driver. During the Second World War, he fought on the side of France, participating in the operations of La Rochelle before being assigned to the 3rd company of the Bataillon de marche n°4. "Demobilized in 1946, he left the army to continue serving his country in the customs service where he took a well-deserved retirement," said Alfred Fuller. The latter and the comrades of the deceased have not yet finished honoring him.
